PERSONAL PROFILE OF DILYS GRIFFITHS DBTh
In the year 2000 I decided to follow training in a lifelong interest in the holistic approach to health, and in particular herbal medicine.
I therefore commenced studies in herbal medicine on a part time basis, which lasted 6 years. During this time I gained a thorough understanding of herbs and their uses for treating the whole individual, and not symptoms, as well as the importance of diet and lifestyle and their impact on overall health. Training also included anatomy and physiology, creating an understanding of how the body works. I experienced training with other practitioners of herbal medicine, observing their various techniques and methods of case taking, examination, observation, treatment and the prescribing of medicinal herbs. In October 2006 I graduated and received a diploma in Botano -Therapy.
I am Welsh speaking and Carmarthenshire born therefore will be able to treat and deal with patients through the medium of Welsh or English.
Recently I returned to Ammanford, together with my husband, after being in Newcastle Emlyn for 19 years. Here I intend to establish a herbal consulting clinic at home. Whilst the preparation of this is in progress I have a consulting room based at Aquaelicium Health and Beauty Spa in Ammanford each Wednesday, and at The Owls' Wisdom, Newcastle Emlyn on Tuesdays once a month.
Being a medical herbalist involves treating the whole person, and assessing the whole aspect of a patient's lifestyle and their environment, as these will always have a great impact on health. Patients are treated "whole-istically" -their body, mind and spirit.
As Medical Herbalists we do not treat diseases, but rather get to the root cause of a problem and then treat this cause of 'dis-ease', therefore assisting the body to heal itself once it has regained its' vital force.
